Ben Applegarth is an artist that graduated from Newcastle University in 2012 with a BA in Fine Art. He has exhibited nationally in group and solo shows. He is interested in geometry, analysing things from different perspectives and realising the construction of 3-dimensional sculptures from his original drawings.
Ben has been utilising a number of printmaking techniques in the workshop to further his practice as an artist. He has particularly taken to the cyanotype technique, creating photograms using prisms. These light focusing objects were used to create negative impressions of the geometric shapes and shadows. Ben also worked with Nick Christie to make a series of screen prints from drawings and photographs of prisms. This series was exhibited by Vane Gallery as part of the Machester Contemporary Art Fair in 2017.
